SS Caesarea was constructed for the BR Channel Island services. She was built at the J Samuel White yard at East Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1960 and sailed from Weymouth (rather than the traditional Southampton) running in service until 1975.
Pictured in British Rail livery of black hull and black & buff funnel colours that had been the traditional livery of the old Southern Railway (nationalised as part of BR in 1948) and that was retained until 1965/66 when it was changed.
